Handyman in Roseville, CA

Roseville is the biggest city I work in, and its houses span a wider range of ages than anywhere else in my area. Some of the oldest homes in south Placer County are a short drive from neighborhoods that are still under construction.

Homes in Roseville

Old Roseville grew up around the railroad. The town started out as a rail junction in the 1860s, and Union Pacific still runs a major rail yard there. Neighborhoods near downtown, like Los Cerritos, have houses built from the 1910s through the 1950s. That means plaster walls, doors with a dozen coats of paint on them, and plumbing that’s been patched one repair at a time. Small fixes in these houses take more care. Sometimes the honest answer is that it needs a plumber or an electrician, and I’ll tell you so.

Most of Roseville is newer. The typical house in the city dates to the late 1990s, and neighborhoods like Highland Reserve, where building started in 1994, have reached the age when toilet fill valves, faucet cartridges, door weatherstripping and fence boards all come due around the same time.

Sun City Roseville is a 55-and-over community. The work there is mostly about making a house easier to live in: lever handles in place of knobs, brighter fixtures, and fans and lights on high ceilings that nobody should be climbing a ladder to reach. Out west, Westpark and the neighborhoods beyond it are mostly move-in work.

Small jobs, done right

Repairs and improvements

Hands-on repair and improvement work around the house. California limits this side of the business to small jobs: under $1,000 in labor and materials, with no building permit needed.

  • Furniture assembly

Flat-pack and boxed furniture assembled square and tight, and anchored to the wall when it can tip.

  • TV mounting

TVs mounted level, into studs or masonry, at a height you can actually watch from the couch.

  • Drywall patch and paint touch-up

Holes, dents and cracks patched, textured and painted so you can’t pick out the repair from across the room.

  • Door and lock repair

Sticking, sagging and drafty doors adjusted, and locks and handles replaced, so every door closes and latches the first time.

  • Faucet and toilet repair

Running toilets, dripping faucets and worn fixtures fixed on your existing plumbing, before they waste more water.

  • Ceiling fan and light fixture swap

Builder fans and fixtures swapped for ones you chose, on the existing wiring, with a fan-rated box when the old one isn’t.

  • Fence and gate repair

Leaning sections, rotted posts, broken boards and sagging gates repaired without tearing out the whole fence.

  • Shelving and closet systems

Shelves and closet systems installed level and fastened for the weight they’ll actually hold.

  • Caulking and weatherproofing

Old, cracked caulk cut out and replaced, and gaps sealed, so water and drafts stay outside.

  • Electronic setup and repair help

Doorbell cameras, smart thermostats, TVs and streaming gear installed on your existing wiring and set up so they work.

  • General home repair punch lists

A whole list of small repairs handled in one visit, instead of calling a different trade for every item.

  • Pressure washing

Driveways, walkways, patios and siding cleaned at the right pressure for each surface, so the grime comes off and the surface doesn’t.

No limit on job size

Hauling, cleaning and site work

This work isn’t contracting, so the small-job limit doesn’t apply. One couch or a whole-house cleanout, a single unit or a full turnover, one site visit or a series of them.
